Welcome to the weekly guide to Doctor Who broadcasts around the world.
The column was going to begin with a Eulogy, but it seems that the patient in question may still be alive. http://www.100000watts.com/ is one of the best sites on the internet. One fan, as a labor of love, has compiled a complete guide to TV, FM, and AM stations in the United States and Canadian/Mexican border markets. Locations, networks, web links, transmitter patterns, power levels, TV & radio markets, and a number of search engines. When I'm asked about how I put This Week together, I direct people to http://www.100000watts.com/ as the guide I use to track down US material. It is the most comprehensive web site I can remember coming across on any particular subject. On April 15 Chip (the site's creator, owner, and maintainer) announced that he planned to retire his site, as the site had grown to the point that he couldn't maintain it to his standards anymore. Those of us who appreciated Chip's service sent our best wishes for his future and regrets that his site was leaving the internet.
Thankfully, the story didn't end there. Imagine if Outpost Gallifrey http://www.gallifreyone.com/ announced it was going under. There'd be a lunatic fan or two out there who would offer to take it over and keep it alive. That has happened with http://www.100000watts.com/ . Chip is reporting that he has received several offers from people offering to keep the site alive in one form or another. He is evaluating the offers to see if any of them will work, and is keeping the site up to date until he reaches a final decision. No guarantees. http://www.100000watts.com/ might still be retired, or it might stay open. No one knows yet. I am delighted that the offers were made, regardless of the outcome. Gives me hope for the future of sites like his.
UK - It's official. http://www.sceneone.co.uk/s1/tv/listings , the main service I have used to keep track of UK listings, was shut down on 3 April. I have replaced the link with another, slightly more awkward search engine that still works. I might use different links there in future weeks until I settle on one I like.
AUSTRALIA - Jason Fraser's Varos Doctor Who site http://www.varos.com/drwho/uktv/ has now put up a tentative schedule for the rest of UKTV Australia's run of Doctor Who. Subject to change as UKTV's actual schedule info comes out. Right now, it looks like UKTV will end the current run of Doctor Who in early to mid June. UKTV plans to rest the series after it finishes the current run. They "rested" the show for a couple of months twice before, once in 1998 after airing all of the series once, and again in late 1999-early 2000 after the end of a run of best-of stories.
USA - Dallas, TX - KERA 13/K24AD http://www.kera.org/ is definitely keeping Doctor Who on the schedule as they enter the Tom Baker stories. Their schedule search engine indicates that Tom Baker stories will air into May. It looks like Doctor Who will stay in the same time slot (Late Fri 12:15AM), but will switch to movie format. Also, it looks like they have mixed up the production and broadcast order of these stories, so unless changes are made they will air all the stories in the "Nerva" arc out of order. I have e-mailed them about that in case there is any chance to fix things - here's hoping. When KERA picked up Doctor Who last year, the committment was just for the Jon Pertwee stories, so the presence of the Tom Baker stories implies that they have received some pledge support from fans. Good to know.
Interstellar Transmissions, the sci-fi radio show, is changing its broadcast time effective Friday May 3. It is moving to 7PM EDT (Midnight BST, 4PM PDT, Sat 9AM AEST if you're tuning in over the web). IT will also be changing radio stations. It will move from WSBR AM 740 West Palm Beach - 640 watts night-time power, to WWNN AM1470 Pompano Beach/Boca Raton, FL - 50,000 watts daytime, 2500 watts night-time, and simulcast on WBYU AM1450 New Orleans, LA - 1000 watts day or night.

Thu Noon CET Delta and the Bannermen pt 2 of 3

The 7th Doctor and Mel accidentally qualify for an all expenses paid time travel vacation back to 1959 Disneyworld in Florida. The story features extensive location filming in Wales, and they didn't have nearly the budget to film in Disneyworld when this season was made - methinks the intergalactic tour bus will not reach its intended destination.

Bad news for the fiery ball of death - when you hitch a ride in the Doctor's TARDIS, you wind up bringing the Doctor with you. And there is nothing more dangerous for an evil scheme than letting the Doctor become aware of it. Well, an evil scheme could cheat on its taxes and get audited, but apart from that nothing is more dangerous than letting the Doctor get involved.

Sarah is posessed by a fossilized hand who desires nuclear power. The 4th Doctor races in to prevent a nuclear catastrophe.

Aliens come to Earth, and link 1977 to 1983. Working in both time periods, the TARDIS crew try to solve the puzzle of the aliens before someone gets hurt. Two wild cards - a teenager hired by the Black Guardian to kill the 5th Doctor, and the memory of retired Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart, who is in both time zones. Sat 11:35PM CDT Vengeance on Varos 4 pt version, pts 1+2
The 6th Doctor and Peri have to land on the planet Varoa to seek Zeiton-7 ore for the TARDIS. Alas, they land during the period when Varos is a brutal prison planet where executions and torture are the big prime time TV programming. At the initial time of broadcast the idea of watching "reality" programming seemed abhorrent. These days - well let's just say that Big Brother has been renewed for a 3rd season in the US, and I'll bet the folks in the UK renewed it there too.
